The past few weeks have been exhausting, demoralizing, and all-around shitty for many of us around the U.S., and although I haven’t been tuned in to international news lately, I’m sure the rest of the world as well. There have been all sorts of problems, both natural and man-made, in all manner of forms to hinder people from enjoying their lives. I’ve been doing what I can to deal with some horrendous acts which have taken place on my university campus as well as some of the more nationalized events. It’s draining, but it’s important, and thank God I’ve got a great support network in place. Also, I am extremely far from being the worst affected by any of it. I haven’t lost a home, a loved one, and maybe it’s naive but I don’t feel as unsafe as I know many people do. So like I said, how is everyone doing?

Fair to middling. My health is not great, as it often is (isn’t?) this time of year. Got my physical next week (I turn 52 on Thursday). My 13 year olds are driving me insane, but I understand that is “normal.” Autumn is my favorite season, but I always seem to get the gobloots this time of year. As long as my doctor doesn’t tell me I have cancer or something, I’ll get over it.

Maybe it’s a bit narcissistic, but I’ve been preoccupied with significant struggles close to home and work. I’m wondering if the key to making the most of the rest of this year might be to turn outward a bit and see if I can make the lives of others a little better. Maybe I should get more involved.

But I probably won’t.

A lot of it are the usual things. Work stress, grad school stress (though this is unusually high right now, this class is a damned mess), house stuff, financial stress because other people do not respect our time, or effort, or what it takes to visit. It’s just a lot. Too much. I have limits, too, dammit!

And mah truck is leaking coolant.

I can justify it, I just can’t fit it in. I had a couple of days where the family was out of town, I spent the whole time trying in vain to stain the stupid hand rail because the wife wants it that way, and wants it done by the time the family comes to t-day, when I should have been trying to relax and studying for my mid-term that is today, and half the “study materials” provided by the professor are completely incorrect. I feel completely unprepared, and don’t have any resources to get prepared with, because we don’t have a text book, and eve if we did, the subject matter is so disjointed as to be impossible to follow. But this guy holds my fate in his hands, as well as $2800 I won’t get reimbursed for if I can’t pull a B. I gotta sell the Abarth and just drive the Montero now, because I have to pay for classes ahead of time, and family travel, and general life, but I can’t find time to post the damn car up. Sorry...ranting...

still alive... had precisely 1 hour of sleep between my nightshift and this morning mandatory course about working efficiently (lean 6 sigma) hint.. more than 1 hour of sleep required for efficient working

managed to get a couple more hours of sleep afterwards but woke up panicked coz AAAAAAAAAAAAH its dark! what day is it? am i supposed to be at work now?

gonna be a loong night... but then its weekend

It’s nice when everything feels like it’s exploding around you.

My phone’s stuck in a boot loop, my Subaru stalled out on me twice today, and I spent a good hour getting my computer to run again.

I was doing pretty well last week. I made the mistake of switching hotels this week and the bed just sucks. Good sleep is eluding me, so now I’m tired and grumpy.

We’re ramping up for a week of traveling when I’d rather go home. Since we’re traveling, the family is coming to meet me, so I won’t get to go home at all next week. Then it’s back to Houston for another week of work. That means I still won’t get to go home. Three weeks away. That sucks no matter how you package it.

On the upside, I’m looking forward to another weekend of flying! I’ll have a new instructor to break in. My previous instructor was scooped up by a regional airline. I’m hoping t h e new one has some experience but isn’t so far along that he gets scooped up too soon. I don’t want a fourth instructor. Three is enough.
